For this project , I'm doing Tuthmosis III ! He was the sixth pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty. This dynasty was the dynasty of Tutarkhamun. He (Tuthmosis) was the successor of Hatshepsut who was his stepmother. Here's the story of Tuthmosis III.
Tuthmosis was born in 1516 BC. His father (Tuthmosis II) was the fourth pharaoh of the same dynasty and his mother was a queen. Even though the wife of Tuthmosis II was Hatshepsut , she would be his stepmother instead of mother like usual. As a child , he would walk from Thebes to Karnak where he would see the priesters of Amon to be taught on how to be a pharaoh since they knew Tuthmosis would be a pharaoh. Since the priesters were very powerful at the time , they were happy enough to educate the boy. Teaching a soon to be pharaoh was a very good idea for the priesters to increase the soon to be pharaoh's power in Egypt. When the priesters taught everything that they knew , it was time for Tuthmosis to be pharaoh.
In 1479 BC , Tuthmosis II died and he (Tuthmosis III) got his chance to be pharaoh , but there was one problem. He was too young to rule. The rule for pharaohs that are too young is that if the new pharaoh is too young to be pharaoh and he is pharaoh because his father died , the mother or stepmother must stay by his side. Hatshepsut would stay by Tuthmosis' side and would stay like that for over twenty years. That's when Hatshepsut died in 1458 BC. Happily enough , he was ready to rule by himself!
In his first days as pharaoh alone , Tuthmosis immediately contributed to building many parts of Egypt and also outside Egypt. He built a temple in memory of the goddess Satet in Elephantine , and did projects in eight places. He also built a temple of his own near Hatshepsut's on a ledge in between hers and Mentuhotep's. Tuthmosis would also biuld a temple in Karnak that is called the "Festival Hall." It's one of the best projects he's done.
Tuthmosis III died in 1425 BC of most likely old age. He ruled for nearly fifty - four years (53 years , 10 months , and 26 days , 1 month and 4 days away from completing a 54th year.) Even though the long reign , he's not the all - time leader in years reigned (Ramesses II - 66 and Pepi II - 94?.) Tuthmosis was buried in the east side of the "Valley of the Kings"tomb KV 34. It was discovered by Victor Loret in 1898.
Learning about Tuthmosis III was fun. I got to learn about a pharaoh other than King Tut and to know much about some one is fun. Pharaohs are different than us in a few ways , but no pharoah was so helpful and so strong to biuld things than Tuthmosis III.
